The number of times a player receives the ball inside the opposition penalty area — a strong indicator of forward threat and xG generation.
Touches in the opposition penalty area (often abbreviated TiB or penalty area touches) measure how frequently a player receives the ball in the most dangerous attacking zone. Forwards who accumulate high TiB figures generate more shooting opportunities and therefore higher xG — even before the actual shot is taken.
TiB is a more granular forward evaluation metric than shots per 90 because it captures near-misses (ball played in to a striker who cannot get a shot off due to defensive pressure) and quality of service, not just final shot output. High TiB with relatively low shots per 90 may indicate a forward being well-served but defensively crowded.
Touches in the box is one of the most reliable FPL metrics for identifying forwards who are in good positions to score regardless of recent goals. A striker averaging 5+ TiB per game but on a poor scoring run is more likely to break their drought than one with 2 TiB per game. FPL data platforms report TiB as a standard attacking metric.
xG (Expected Goals)
A metric that scores every shot by its probability of resulting in a goal, based on factors like shot location, angle, and assist type.
Shots on Target
Attempts that require a save or result in a goal, excluding blocked shots and shots that miss the frame.
Anytime Goalscorer
A bet on a player to score at least one goal at any point during the match, regardless of when or the final result.
False 9
A striker who drops into midfield to create space and overloads, rather than staying as a traditional centre-forward.
