A numerical rating for upcoming fixtures that indicates how difficult each match is for a given team, used to identify favourable fantasy football selections.
Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) is a scoring system that rates upcoming fixtures on a scale (typically 1–5) based on the strength of the opposition. A fixture rated 1 or 2 is against a weak team — favourable for attackers and goalkeepers. A fixture rated 4 or 5 is against one of the top sides — harder for clean sheets and attacking returns.
In Fantasy Premier League (FPL), FDR is updated weekly based on recent form, home/away factor, and team strength metrics. The official FPL FDR is a useful starting point, but many analysts build custom FDR systems weighted toward specific positions.
The primary use of FDR is fixture planning — identifying 3–6 game windows where a team has consistently favourable ratings and targeting their key players. Holding a defender from a team with four consecutive easy fixtures (FDR 2 or below) is standard strategy.
FDR is most actionable for defenders and goalkeepers (clean sheet probability) and attacking players in form. High FDR fixtures suppress expected returns; low FDR fixtures boost them — especially for players with high minutes and involvement.
xG (Expected Goals)
A metric that scores every shot by its probability of resulting in a goal, based on factors like shot location, angle, and assist type.
BTTS (Both Teams to Score)
A betting market that pays out if both teams score at least one goal in the match, regardless of the final result.
Over/Under Goals
A market betting on the total number of goals in a match being above or below a set line — most commonly Over/Under 2.5 goals.
