A Goal-Creating Action credits the last two offensive actions before a goal: the assist and the action before it (a pass, dribble, drawn foul or rebound). It extends the idea of an assist one action further back.
Because goals are rare, GCA is a low-volume, high-variance metric — best read over a full season rather than a handful of matches.
Pair GCA with SCA: a player with high SCA but low GCA is creating plenty without the finish landing (often bad luck that regresses upward); consistently high GCA marks genuine end product.
Per-90 GCA helps compare creators across teams with very different shot volumes.
SCA (Shot-Creating Actions)
The two offensive actions directly leading to a shot — passes, dribbles, drawn fouls or shot rebounds — credited to the players involved.
xA (Expected Assists)
A metric that measures the probability that a pass or cross will result in a goal, weighting each assist opportunity by the xG of the resulting shot.
xG (Expected Goals)
A metric that scores every shot by its probability of resulting in a goal, based on factors like shot location, angle, and assist type.
