In fantasy, a real-world team with nothing left to play for — motivation and rotation risk make its players unreliable picks.
A dead team (or "on the beach") has no remaining stakes — safe from relegation, out of the European and title races — usually late in the season. Motivation drops and managers rotate heavily to rest players or blood youngsters.
Their assets become risky FPL picks: minutes are unpredictable and intensity often dips, hurting attacking returns and clean-sheet odds.
Downgrade players from dead teams facing motivated opponents, and be wary of captaining them. Conversely, players from teams still fighting for something are safer for minutes and effort.
Cross-reference with fixtures and rotation risk rather than treating "dead" as an automatic sell.
Effective Ownership (EO)
In FPL, the share of active teams that gain from a player once captaincy is counted — often above 100% for popular captains.
xGI (Expected Goal Involvements)
A player’s expected goals plus expected assists combined — the single best proxy for total attacking output, widely used in FPL.
Price Drop
In FPL, an overnight fall in a player’s price when enough managers sell them — the opposite of a price rise, and a hit to team value.
